Sebastian W.Zettlr has everything you need for note taking, finding and organizing them. I replaced OneNote completely with Zettlr. Today i got 3k files in around 260 folders.
All in a beautiful structure. As is is plain text (MarkDown), you can easily synchronize it to a cloud provider you like. There you can search, view and even edit your files. -

Noah A.Zettlr simplifies notetaking in many ways: Notes are stored in folders on your computer, just like any other files, rather than in some obscure location; creating an auto-saved, uniquely named note in your desired location is as simple as pressing CTRL+N; and formatting and sectioning within notes is determined by characters that you type and can easily see, instead of a phantom layer of formatting a la MS Word.
But it also lets you custom-make an intricate web of information and knowledge that is traversable much in the same way as interconnected Wikipedia articles. Notes link to other notes. Tags, placed anywhere in a note, add another layer of structure.
Use Zettlr as a so-called Zettelkasten system — or don't, and instead just use it as a fast, simple, intuitive alternative to your web-based note-taking app that's become unwieldy, feature-bloated and slow. -

DanOne of the more important open markdown editors out there. Great support for pandoc and Zettelkasten work flows.
